Protecting our employees, communities and industries through skills and training

In the wake of major accidents around the globe, and building on the recommendations of the Process Safety Leadership Group, in 2010 the Skills Academy and Cogent SSC announced the formation of a Process Safety Management Project Board with senior industry and union representatives, the HSE, CIA, TSAUKPIA and IChemE, to tackle the issue of quality assuring Process Safety training.

This Project Board is leading the establishment of the industry training and standards that will underpin the Process Safety Management skills, knowledge and competence in the UK Process Industries. The Board is also supported by an Expert Panel of volunteers from industry, training and education with the experience and specific knowledge required to oversee the development a suite of training standards for Process Safety.

The Academy is building a network of quality assured Academy Accredited training providers specialising in Process Safety, to ensure it can offer employers a choice of endorsed courses and approved trainers that fully meet the standards that have been set by industry and its representatives.

The first courses are now being endorsed by the Academy against the training standard for Process Safety Leadership for Senior Executives.
