Skills and Higher Education Funding Manager - One NorthEast
Gillian Collinson is the Skills and Higher Education Strategy Manager at ONE NorthEast, the Regional Development Agency for the North East of England. Gillian leads and manages the strategy, policy and investment priorities of the ONE NorthEast Skills and Higher Education programme. She has over 20 years postgraduate experience within both the public and private sector, within the skills/educational and engineering fields.
Originally from Glasgow, Gillian Collinson graduated from Strathclyde University with a Honours Degree in Applied Physics. She then entered a graduate engineering programme with Rolls Royce, and spent eight years with the company on a variety of assignments across the UK. Following time with the University of Durham obtaining a M.Sc., Gillian worked with LG.Philips Displays as their Product Design Manager. During this time, she held direct responsibility for the management and development of a large engineering team with full design and development accountability for all activities within the business. As Manager for all new product developments and improvements within the Centre and other world-wide sites, responsibilities included the technical and commercial leadership of contracts from initial point of-sale through to proposing and implementing design solutions within the product range.
She attained her MBA at the University of Durham in 2000, and following time at the City of Sunderland College with responsibility for College Growth and Development, Gillian joined One NorthEast, the Regional Development Agency for the Northeast of England in 2004.
